General Manager's Report to the Board of Twin Cities Free-Net

December 17, 1998

Minneapolis Foundation Grant Proposal:
Board president John Beardsley and I met with Mark Holtz of Elliot Park Neighborhood, Inc., and Nolan Venkatrathnam of Stevens Square Community Organization to talk about TCFN's existing collaborations with those organizations, in order to lay the groundwork for a joint grant proposal to be submitted to the Minneapolis Foundation next March. The fundraising commitee will be involved in the planning and writing of the proposal.

Strategic Plan Reevaluation:
Board president John Beardsley and I will spend an hour on January 6 with consultant Christy Hammes of MAP for Nonprofits to determine our needs regarding our strategic plan, specifically whether we will need to reevaluate it comprehensively or just make a few cosmetic changes. If changes prove desirable, a committee of the board will likely be formed to work on them.

Ongoing Projects:
All lights are green for the MR Net colocation and voicemail line. We have successfully processed donations via credit-cards, but we are not receiving enough of them to make this service worthwhile.

Account Deletions:
Successfully deleted 400 accounts from the server because they were bogus, duplicates, or had violated policy, or because their owners requested deletion. Deletion of these accounts from the membership database has yet to be accomplished.

Media Publicity:
Articles mentioning TCFN appeared this month in the Pioneer Press, the Skyway News, the Southside Journal, the SSCO Herald, and the mini'app'les Newsletter.

TCFN Holiday Party:
A belated holiday party will be held on Sunday, January 10. Board members are encouraged to attend.
