TITLE: General Manager
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Oversight and management of all day-to-day operations of Twin Cities Free-Net
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
SUPERVISES: Volunteers, Office Manager, Interns
HOURS: 20 hours per week, flexible schedule
SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish the optimum level of volunteers and interns needed to deliver TCFN services.
- Develop and maintain volunteer database.
- Develop and maintain volunteer schedule.
- Monitor volunteer levels.
- Recruit volunteers and interns interested in opportunities with TCFN.
- Develop recruiting materials for distribution.
- Distribute recruiting materials to appropriate locations.
- Develop an annual recruitment plan.
- Develop a relationship with groups that encourage volunteerism, such as the Corporate Volunteerism Council.
- Generate interest in opportunities at TCFN through public speaking and public relations engagements presented to select groups.
- Perform the initial screening of TCFN volunteers and interns.
- Establish screening criteria and procedures to be used when selecting potential volunteers and interns.
- Establish position descriptions for volunteer and intern positions that will enable candidates to determine their area of interest.
- Establish an application process for potential volunteers and interns.
- Interview candidates to determine if they have the necessary skills for the position desired.
- Select appropriate volunteers and interns to fill vacancies.
- Ensure that the following functions are accomplished by volunteers or interns:
- Recruitment of sponsors for phone lines and conferences.
- Recruitment of new users.
- System administration/ maintenance.
- User support.
- Software development.
- Clerical, including bookkeeping, billing, user registration, renewals, coverage of voice phone, and office maintenance.
- Services to Organizational Members, including setup of directories
for Web pages, E-mail aliases, and timely responses to member questions.
- Policy enforcement, including user complaints, disputes, and abuse of privileges.
- Web site development and maintenance.
- Up-to-date documentation of user manuals and online help.
- Marketing efforts, such as advertising, literature development & distribution and newsletter are maintained.
- Membership gatherings.
- Ensure that the volunteers and interns receive the support, training and development needed to provide services for the agency.
- Develop and manage a plan to train volunteers and interns.
- Conduct yearly satisfaction survey of volunteers and interns.
- Coordinate volunteer gatherings.
- Develop and manage a volunteer recognition plan.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proven experience in and knowledge of volunteer management.
- Proven experience in and knowledge of TCFN’s services.
- Demonstrated ability to engender a team spirit in individuals supervised.
- Ability to represent TCFN through public speaking and in meetings with community groups.
- Ability to communicate effectively with volunteers, interns, Board of Directors, Executive Director and community representatives.
- Ability to design and implement procedures.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Broad knowledge of computers.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR GENERAL MANAGER:
- Bachelor’s degree in social services/computer technology/marketing/volunteer
management preferred, although a combination of experience and education will be
considered.
- Demonstrated familiarity and comfort with online communication, specifically E-mail
and online text-based discussion forums.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.
- Experience in volunteer management/supervision.
- Experience in presenting programs to groups.
