Volunteering



The Free-Net is a grassroots, volunteer-driven organization. Community networks around the world owe their success mainly to the talents and dedication of their volunteers. We need your help!

Getting Your Bearings:

  1. Visit the volunteer Wall of Fame to see what volunteers have done for TCFN in the past and present.
  2. Visit the individual teams and committees below to see what volunteers currently do and what our needs are right now!
  3. Check the boxes of teams or committees below that you'd like to receive mail about.
Conferencing Team Maintains & improves the quality of online discussion services that are available to the community.
Community Technology Center Team Connects community technology centers to each other so they can share resources, information, classes, and grants.
Dial-Up Team Maintains and improves the services aimed at individual members: the dial-up lines, text interface, and member database.
OrgResources Team Provides services to organizational members: Web hosting, domain registration, tutoring, and neighborhood information.
System Administration Team Maintains and improves the Free-Net server and its software.
Development Committee Plans and supervises the Free-Net's fundraising strategies.
Finance Committee Keeps the Free-Net's financial records in order and makes our financial status available to the public.
Management Committee Advises the General Manager regarding volunteer coordination and the implementation of the Operating Plan.
Nominating Committee Finds qualified candidates for empty seats on the board of directors when they become available.
Promotion Committee Plans and oversees efforts to publicize the Free-Net and its projects.


Getting Started:

  1. Register for a Free-Net account, if you haven't done so already.
  2. Join the TCFN conference in The Neighborhood conversation center to keep up-to-date on what's going on.


Donations

We appreciate donations of equipment as well as time and money. We maintain a list of our current needs. Please check it to see if you or your organization can help.
