System Administration Volunteer
Read the Ark conference, try to grok the gestalt of the Free-Net server, and help out when you can.
Competence in UNIX, the more the better.
2-5 hours per month.
Looks great on a résumé and gives you bragging rights in some circles.

Emergency Responder
Go to Onvoy to fix the server when it crashes and cannot be brought back remotely.
Ready availability via cell phone or pager.
One to 4 hours per crash (only a few times a year).

Damage Control Specialist
Return the voicemail messages from about a dozen folks that report a problem before we get a chance to change the outgoing message.
Good phone presence, availability during daytime or evening hours.
About an hour, 3-5 times a year.
People will be surprised and pleased that you called.

Security Specialist
Inspect the security of the Free-Net's server and bring potential improvements to the attention of the system administrators and programmers.
Knowledge of modern UNIX security, suspicious nature.
About 2 hours per month.
Set your own hours. Find holes in the system before a cracker does.

Documentation Specialist
Devise and uphold standards for the way programs on the server -- and any revisions made to them -- are documented. Explain these standards to the Programmers, and pester them until they comply.
Knowledge of existing standards and software for revision control and documentation.
About 2 hours per month.
Set your own hours, be respected for your inflexibility, and tell other sysadmins to RTFM.

Root Mail Recipient
Receive all mail sent to root@tcfreenet.org, including news from our ISP as well as messages from various daemons on the server. Bring these messages promptly to the attention of the appropriate people.
Experience preferable but not necessary.
A few minutes per day.
